Street Opening Permits

A street opening permit is required any time you plan to excavate in the Town of Monroe Right-of-Way (see Right-of-Way for definition).

In order to acquire a street opening permit from the Public Works Department, you must:

  • Post an annual bond in the amount of $5,000
  • Obtain a certificate of liability insurance prior to working in the Town of Monroe

After you have posted the bond with the Public Works Department and submitted a current certificate of insurance, you must then complete the street opening permit form in the Public Works Department in Room 215. You will need the following four (4) things before the permit can be approved:

  • Verification of current bond.
  • Call Before You Dig ticket number.
  • A $25 permit fee payable to the Town of Monroe (check or cash)
  • A $5 permit fee payable to the Police Department (check or cash)
