MAY 10, 2010  (Monday) REGISTRARS

PARTY TRANSFER -- STATE, DISTRICT AND MUNICIPAL OFFICE PRIMARY. Last day that an enrolled elector can transfer from one party to another and be eligible to vote in state, district or municipal office primary of new party. (§ 9-59)
 
 
However, Unaffiliated and New voters may enroll in either the Democratic or the Republican party until August 5, 2010.  In-person and mail-in applications must be received by August 9, 2010 at noon, but please check the details and exceptions in the Connecticut State Statutes by clicking the link below and scrolling to the bottom of page 13 and top of page 14 and 15.  (Actual pertinent text copied below link.) 

 

AUGUST 5, 2010  (Thursday) REGISTRARS

REGISTRATION AND ENROLLMENT CUT-OFF. Deadline for registering and/or enrolling for voting in primary for state, district or municipal office unless register in person with town clerk or registrar or unless file application for enrollment in person with registrar of voters. (§§ 9-23g, 9-56 and 9-57)


Mail-in application of new voter must be received by registrar of voters of the town of residence by this day, except that a mail-in application of new voter postmarked by this day or received by a voter registration agency or the Department of Motor Vehicles by this day may be received by the registrar of voters until 12:00 noon of August 9, 2010. (§ 9-23g(c) and (d))

However, enrollment application of unaffiliated voter must be received by this day by registrar of voters of the town of residence unless unaffiliated voter files application for enrollment in person with registrar of voters by 12:00 noon of August 9, 2010. (§ 9-56)

AUGUST 10, 2010 (Friday - Tuesday)
REGISTRARS

REGISTRATION BY MAIL -- PRIMARY FOR STATE, DISTRICT OR MUNICIPAL OFFICE -- NOTICE OF ACCEPTANCE OR REJECTION TO BE SENT WITHIN 10 DAYS. PRIVILEGES OF AN ELECTOR SHALL NOT ATTACH UNTIL THE DAY AFTER THE PRIMARY OR THE DAY APPLICATION IS APPROVED BY REGISTRAR, WHICHEVER IS LATER. When a mail-in application hand-delivered by someone other than the applicant is received during this period by registrars in applicant's town of residence (or by the DMV or a voter registration agency), or a mailed mail-in application for registration is postmarked during this period, registrar must act on the application and send by first-class mail a notice of acceptance or rejection within 10 days of receipt of the application, but privileges of an elector shall not attach until August 11, 2010, or until the application is approved by registrar, whichever is later. (§ 9-23g(d)(2))


IMPORTANT EXCEPTION:
If an application of a new voter indicates that it was (1) received by August 5, 2010 by the DMV or a voter registration agency, or (2) postmarked by August 5, 2010, the registrar of voters of the town of residence shall mail a notice of acceptance or rejection on the day of receipt of such application during the period August 6 th through noon August 9th. Such persons whose applications are accepted by noon August 9 th acquire privileges of an elector immediately and may vote in the primary. (§ 9-23g(c) and (d))

AUGUST 9, 2010 (Monday) 12:00 noon REGISTRARS

REGISTRATION BY MAIL -- PRIMARY FOR STATE, DISTRICT AND MUNICIPAL OFFICES. Deadline for the registrar of the mail-in applicant's town of residence to receive mail-in application (postmarked by fifth day before primary or received by DMV or voter registration agency by such fifth day) so that the applicant may be enrolled in time to vote in primary. (§§ 9-23a, and 9-23g(c) and (d))

AUGUST 9, 2010 (Monday) 12:00 noon REGISTRARS

REGISTRATION AND ENROLLMENT CUT-OFF IN PERSON.  Deadline for registering in person with the registrar of voters or town clerk of the town of residence and deadline for enrolling in person with the registrar of voters for voting in primary for state, district or municipal office. Deadline for cross-town registrations to be received by registrar of town of residence. Applications from servicemen and persons out of the country under §§ 9-26 and 9-23a may be received throughout the day. (§§ 9-19e, 9-23a, 9-56 and 9-57)

Twenty-one days before the the first vote, the Town Clerk
will  mail out your ballot.
 
Be sure to send the ballot back quickly, so that it reaches
the Town Clerk in time for the vote.
 
If time is short* make sure to hand-deliver
your Absentee Ballot Application to the Town Clerk
by 5 p.m. the day before the referendum.
 
*Please note, the second referendum is held three weeks after the first referendum, but if the budget still does not pass on the second try, the third, fourth, etc. referendums are held only two weeks apart on Tuesdays until the budget passes.

WHERE DO YOU REGISTER?

Register in PERSON with some form of identification:

The 0ffice of the Town Clerk or Registrar of Voters in ANY city/town hall in Connecticut during normal office hours. Registration is forwarded to the Registrar.

Any office of the following Departments: Motor Vehicles, Social Services, Aging, or Labor; the State Library, the U.Conn. library, and the other state college libraries.

If you register through any of t
hese departments, it is a good idea to check with your local registrar of voters (452-2820) at least three weeks before election day to see if your form was received.

Your home, if you are physically disabled and make a written request to the Registrars or Town Clerk.

 

 
 
 
 
HOW TO VOTE ABSENTEE

Request an APPLICATION from your Town Clerk, 203-452-2811, (either in person or by mail). Complete the Application and return it (in person or by mail) to the Town Clerk. Allow enough time to receive and complete the application; then return it promptly.

If you return the application in person, you may complete your ABSENTEE BALLOT at that time, or you may take the ballot and return it to the Town Clerk at a later date (either in person or by mail).

If you return the application by mail, the ABSENTEE BALLOT will be sent to you by mail. You may then return the completed ballot to the Town Clerk in person or by mail.


WHEN DO YOU VOTE?

On regular election days and in a presidential preference primary, polls are open from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
