Town of Monroe MISSION: The Monroe Food Pantry uses donations from town residents and others to provide nutritious foods to Monroe residents who are in need. The food is intended to supplement what recipients can provide for themselves with food stamps or income. We try to provide about a week's worth of food for each household, which would be adjusted according to the size of the household. ELIGIBILITY: Monroe residents who have been determined eligible by the Director of Social Services are eligible to access food at the Food Pantry either one time a month at our regular distribution times, or in an emergency if they call to make an appointment. Priority will be given to households that are having difficulty meeting their necessary living expenses and medical bills with the income available to them. Eligibility will be re-determined each year. Proof of income and expenses for household will be required. PANTRY HOURS: The pantry is open every week on Monday (2pm-6pm), Wednesday (9am-1pm) and Friday (9am-1pm), except for holidays. Five or six days are set aside each month as "shopping days". These will be the days for you to make an appointment to shop. Schedules for each moth are mailed on a monthly basis. If you misplace your schedule, please call the pantry at 452-3770 to get a new one. If you need food before one of these shopping days, please call the pantry to make these arrangements. WHEN YOU COME FOR FOOD: We will have a volunteer present to walk you through the pantry to help you pick out what foods you will be more likely to use. We need to ensure that there will be enough for everyone, and the food you see on the shelves may have to last for two or three months. We also try to match sizes of items to the households we serve whenever possible.
