Senior Citizens / Totally Disabled Tax Exemption Program
The Tax Assessor's Office is taking applications for the Tax Exemption Program from February 1 until May 14. Applications are filed electronically; therefore, it will be necessary to call the Assessor's Office to schedule an appointment. You must have completed your 2010 Federal Income Tax Return (based on 2009 income) before your appointment. In addition, you need proof of income, which includes the Social Security 1099 Form and all other income from the household.
Basic Criteria:
State Benefit:
-Must be 65 years of age by end of 2009
-Own the home you live in
-Be a Connecticut resident for at least a year
-2009 income must not exceed $32,300 for singles and $39,500 for couples.
Town Benefit:
-64 years of age
-Monroe residence for more than 183 days per year
-Resident one year preceding October Grand List
-Income cannot exceed $60,000/household

Renters Assistance 
Rebate for Elderly/Disabled Renters Tax Relief Program

Emergency Housing Program for Cash Recipients
Social Work Services units at regional DSS offices can provide placement in temporary housing for eligible TFA, SAGA, Cash, or State Supplement recipients. Clients can stay in temporary housing for up to 60 days; they are also entitled to moving expenses and 60 days of storage.

Prospect House
Prospect House provides emergency shelter to thirty-two adults on a daily basis. Prospect House also provides comprehensive case management services to meet the varied and complex needs of individuals who are homeless. The case management program at Prospect House includes assessment, transportation, life skills training, and individual, group, and family work.
